John Hennigan wins Borgata Poker Classic

John Hennigan dominated the final table of the Borgata Poker Classic from start to finish. He single-handedly knocked out four of his five opponents to win $1,606,223, a World Poker Tour (WPT) bracelet and a seat in the WPT Championship in April.

When the action started at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, John Hennigan was in third place, way behind chip leaders Joe Simmons and John Gale.

Hennigan started to turn things around when he won a huge pot against Gale with flush over flush, and after that, it was Hennigan's tournament.

Gale had knocked out the short-stack Jon James Jr. early in the day, but all other eliminations were left to Hennigan. First he busted Michael Sukonik, then Simmons, then Gale, and finally he defeated Chuck Kelly in the heads-up match for the title.

In the final hand Hennigan made a full house, threes full of aces, to beat Kelley's lower full house, threes full of sevens.

The victory at the Borgata Poker Classic was John Hennigan's first in a WPT tournament. He has, however, won two World Series of Poker events and finished in the money on several other occasions prior to this.

Final table results from the Borgata Poker Classic:

Place Name Prize
1st John Hennigan $1,606,223
2nd Charles Kelley $849,082
3rd John Gale $443,096
4th Joseph Simmons $387,709
5th Michael Sukonik $332,322
6th Jon James Jr $276,935
