World Poker Tour for interactive TV launched

The World Poker Tour has gone interactive, with the launch of a WPT-branded Texas Hold'em game on the DISH Network and Bell ExpressVu satellite TV platforms this month.

Developed by PixelPlay, an interactive TV games and technology company, the game was launched earlier this month on Bell ExpressVu and on Wednesday was added to EchoStar's DISH Network as a featured game on DishGAMES' subscription service.

The World Poker Tour for Interactive TV, as they're calling it, consists of 12 WPT No-Limit Texas Hold'em games of increasing difficulty, playable with your remote control.

Each level is played against five computer bots, and a level is won when all five opponents have lost all their chips and leave the table. New opponents are introduced in each level, and opponent skill and aggressiveness increase as the levels advance.

Once you get to the game's higher levels, bots based on actual WPT players are introduced, with David Williams, Antonio Esfandiari, Michael Mizrachi, Evelyn Ng, and World Poker Tour host Mike Sexton already some of the names licensed.

The game is still in development, but in its full actualized form will include WPT-endorsed strategy and tips videos from the poker pros and a unique step-by-step tutorial from Sexton.

Also included in the future plans: Bots that will adjust to your playing style and a cross-platform multi-player version with tournaments and contest for prizes.
