Perry gets second crack at World Series Main Event

Former ironworker Dennis Perry cowboyed up to win the World Series of Poker Circuit event in Tunica, Miss. and its $563,402 first prize.

The Williamstown, Ky., man polished off runner up Gioi Luong's sixes with pocket kings to take his second World Series event and a seat at this year's championship.

Though accused of laying down some bad beats during the main event at Tunica's Grand Casino, Perry was unapologetic for his successful play following the tournament.

"I'm a gambler. I take a lot of chances," Perry told PokerListings.com in an interview. "I worked with structural steel iron for 36 years. I put my life on the line about every day. And you know, if that don't scare you, what's a poker game going to do to you?"

Indeed, Perry had little to fear heading into the final table armed with the chip lead and a plan for some aggressive play. Throughout the six-hour event, Perry personally busted four of his competitors, including the table's only big name, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, who finished sixth.
