Pierce Brosnan to star in latest high-stakes poker film

After not getting a piece of the "Casino Royale" action, former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan will headline his own poker movie, an adaptation of the Leonard Wise novel "The Big Biazzarro."

The drama follows a mysterious veteran card player - to be played by Brosnan - who takes on a talented protege in the high-stakes world of international gambling.

Brosnan's company, Irish DreamTime, will collaborate with Maloof Motion Pictures for the film, reports entertainment industry publication "Variety."

The eponymous company is run by the Maloof family, owners of the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and NBA team the Sacramento Kings. "The Big Biazzaro" is to be the second film financed by the Maloofs.

"We want to get more active, and this project is a perfect fit," Andrew Jameson, a representative of Maloof, told Variety. "Our plan is to be instrumental in the development of a project and, once we get a script and a star, involve a distribution partner."

Vondie Curtis-Hall, an actor with behind-the-camera experience in television, will pen the script and direct the film.
