Betfair Poker showing the way to Montreux

Players up for a bit of off-piste action with their poker are eyeing the Showdown Poker Tour's (SDPT) upcoming Casino de Montreux event with a bit of lust in their hearts. If having someone else pay their buy-in and travel costs also inspires some lust, Betfair Poker's satellites might be a good place to look as well.

Part of the televised SDPT, the Montreux main event will take place at the infamous Casino de Montreux, on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 4.

Daily $8+80¢ turbo satellites will feed into daily $40+$4 satellites, which will in turn feed into weekly $300+$20 showdowns offering up at least one $9,000 package to the event.

The package will include the €5,550 to enter, plus $1,750 to cover flights, accommodation and spending money.

Seats are limited to 100 players.

The event is expected to attract some of Europe's top poker pros looking for smaller fields and a "player-friendly" structure close to home, Betfair says.

"The ski slopes are nearby," says Betfair's Head of Poker Ben Fried, "so the on-tilt players may find themselves off-piste if they make an early exit."

The original Casino de Montreux burnt to the ground in 1971 after a Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention concert. One of the members of Deep Purple was there, and the fire reputedly inspired the band's hit "Smoke on the Water." The casino was then reopened in 1975.

For more information on the satellite qualifiers, visit Betfair Poker.
