Rhett Butler helps raise thousands for charity

Rhett Butler, the fifth place finisher of the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event, recently hosted a poker tournament to raise money for the Project Lifesaver Foundation. The tournament raised thousands of dollars for the foundation.

"We are very thrilled that Rhett was able to provide such generous support through his poker tournament," said Rick Rahim, Project Lifesaver Foundation executive director.

According to a press release from the foundation, fun was had by all at the holiday charity tournament and thousands of dollars were donated so that less fortunate families might benefit from the technology offered by Project Lifesaver.

Project Lifesaver serves Alzheimer's patients, children with Down Syndrome, patients with autism, mental retardation, dementia, brain injury, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, bipolar disorder and clients with similar medical needs.

Clients who are signed up with Project Lifesaver wear a personalized wristband with a radio transmitter in it. If the person wanders off or goes missing, local authorities can use a tracking system to find them.

Nearly 1,500 people have been found using Project Lifesaver and the system has a 100% success rate so far.

The Project Lifesaver Foundation, of which Rhett Butler and his wife Julie are founding benefactors, works to promote awareness of Project Lifesaver as well as raise money through events and soliciting to help provide the service for families who couldn't otherwise afford it.
