3-D Poker Site Launched by French Company

Site Combines Action of 2-D sites with Rich Virtual World

French video game company Mekensleep launched a new 3-D real money poker site, pok3d.com. The site immerses players into a complete three dimensional environment and brags that it represents a revolution in Internet poker because players can customize their own avatars and use them to express emotions to their opponents.

Picture the popular computer lifestyles game The Sims meshed with an online poker site.

Video game creator Mekensleep developed a rich three dimensional interface that steeps the player in conditions which really do resemble those of real-life poker tournaments, the company says.

Every player sets up a personality to match his or her real or dream character, and that character acts the way the player wishes it to, from glancing nervously around the room to sitting there all stoic. Players are represented by their avatar, whose appearance and personality they can tailor to suit their whims.

Players get to choose from 20 male or female characters, and then are able to customize everything from the clothes they're wearing to eye and hair color.

The same goes for the poker rooms, which offers a rich variety of environments including, hushed parlours, underground gambling dens, specialist tournament rooms, or a provincial farmhouse. Players' reactions and the comments they exchange through the simplicity of a dialogue box complete the game's realistic atmosphere by giving full importance to bluffing and body language. More rooms are planned for the very near future, thereby further multiplying the game's possibilities with tables designed for four, six, eight, or 10 players.
