Hachem wins WPT Doyle Brunson championship event

He's no one-hit wonder: Last night 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Joseph Hachem added a World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship win to his credentials.

"I'm more excited than I was when I won the World Series," a jubilant Hachem told PokerListings.com after taking down runner-up Jim Hanna in heads-up play at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

After knocking out fellow pro Daniel Negreanu, the Aussie went on to claim the victory as well as $2.2 million in prize money and a seat at the $25,000 WPT World Championship.

Though he started out the final day fourth in the chip standings, Hachem played conservatively with a top-three spot in mind.

Though at one point it looked as though Hachem would meet Negreanu - the final table's initial chip leader - in heads-up play, Kid Poker suffered some big losses to the cards of Hanna and busted out in third.

Hanna was big stack going into heads-up play with $9,570,000 to Hachem's $7,935,000. But Hachem gobbled up $3 million of Hanna's chips after the former football pro folded rather than go all-in against the Aussie.

The hand gave Hachem control of the game, which was said and done when both men went all-in - Hanna with a Q-J and Hachem with an A-6. The flop produced a pair of aces for Hachem and a second-place $1,099,430 prize for Hanna.

Joe Hachem is now one of only four men - Doyle Brunson, Juan Carlos Mortensen and Scotty Nguyen - who hold World Series of Poker Main Event and World Poker Tour titles.
